Directed by Nick Cassavetes, this adaptation of author Nicholas Sparks' bestselling novel revolves around Noah Calhoun's (James Garner) regular visits to a female patron (Gena Rowlands) of an area nursing home. Rather than bore her with the inanities of everyday life, Calhoun reads from an old, faded notebook containing the sweeping account of a young couple (Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) whose love affair was tragically put to a halt after their separation in the midst of World War II. Seven years later, the couple was reunited, and, despite having taken radically different paths, they found themselves unable to resist the call of a second chance.

This movie is one of my favorite movies because I find it extremely romantic, and as I consider myself a romantic person, I enjoyed it a lot. I really like the way this couple fell in love to each other and the kind of relationship they used to have when they were young.

The first time I watched it, I didn’t figure out that the old guy narrating the story to the lady with memory lost problems was really the young Noah Calhoun. When I got to the point that the plot of the story reaches that part, I broke into tears (to be honest). I really love this movie.

If you haven’t watched it yet, I recommend watching it this Monday or Tuesday that we don’t have class. Watch it lying on your bed with some popcorn and a relaxing environment. You will love it!

(this is an example of the assignment that you will have to do by this Wednesday November 3, 2010)

SUMMER VACATIONS EXPERIENCES

Summer vacation (also called summer holidays or summer break) is a vacation in the summertime between school years in which students and instructors are off school typically between 6 and 12 weeks, depending on the country and district.
In this section, you will have to narrate experiences you have had in your summer vacations. Remember, you can describe positive experiences, as well as negatives. Don’t forget the uses of the adverbs we saw in class. At least you have to use 5 of them.
Example:

My last summer vacations were very interesting. While I was resting in my house without anything to do but rest, a friend, who is also an English Teacher, gave me a call asking me to be the conductor of a Didactic Course. Fortunately, I was not doing anything particularly, so I accepted. I started this course sadly, because I was having a break from too much work, but I thought it was a great opportunity to be the person who can help more teachers to improve some didactic skills. So, ……..
I will wait anxiously your assignments.
Greetings.
Mr. Mike

What makes a person extraordinary?

Hey dear students of English V. Here is the beginning of our tasks for the class, and we will start with this unit that talks about successful persons. so my question will be:
Do you know of someone that just inspires others to live better lives?
Inspirational people are all around us. Probably in our classroom, there are extraordinary people. We just need to focus on ourselves, very deeply and find this person.
Being extraordinary isn't about who donates the most money. It is the mindset he has that his business can make a difference. It is the idea of making the world a better place. It is the perspective of perfection on everything we do. It is the happiness and effort with apply to our professions.  At first, it looks like only a small difference, but accumulatively it is huge.
After having this class with you, I began to think about inspirational people and what type of traits they had in common, and I found the following:
1. Passionate- Courageously pursuing what they know is their passion in their life is a common trait.
2. Never giving up - The stick to it attitude no matter what obstacles may be found in their way separates the ordinary from the extraordinary.
3. Mindset - This is an internal programming that lets them know they will achieve their goal. There is no doubt in their minds that everything they can imagine is achievable.
4. Discipline - They make their goals or achievements seem natural or easy, when in fact, it is their discipline that keeps them going through the systems, routine or training. I love the quote from Michael Jordan. I have missed more baskets than anyone I know, because I have shot more baskets than anyone I know.
5. Raising the bar - by reaching goals, or stretching their reality to achieve results, they in turn stretch the reality of those around them.
I am willing to read your stories about successful people you know. Please, follow this blog by clicking the button that says “seguir” in the bottom part of the main page. There’s where you can use your facebook, twitter or gmail account to be part of this experience.

Mexican Food Demonstration

Last Tuesday September 14th, the students of the University of Sonora attending English level 5 classes, prepared a demonstration of selected Mexican Food. Students had to prepare their dishes in their houses and bring them to the class with an explanation of the process of cooking them. Each team had to select one member to represent them and explain infront of the class the tradition of the dish, and the ingredients they used.
We had a great time when the presentations finished and we all started tasting those delicious dishes and fresh horchata and jamaica water.
